Thanks Dave & Sirius Guys!

Non seulement Dave Page est un core-hacker, non seulement il sera là aux PgDay EU 2009 , non seulement il fait partie de l'équipe d'organisation des PgDay EU 2009 non seulement il a fait en sorte que Sirius soit Sponsor Silver du PgDay EU 2009 à Paris les 6 et 7 novembre 2009, mais en plus il fait de la pub pour l'événement !

Et oui, c'est dans cette interview, que je vous conseille évidement de lire, que Dave nous en apprend un peu plus sur les PgDay EU 2009. Il n'oublie pas de dire qu'il y aura des soirées et d'autres surprises pendant ces deux journées.

Vraiment, Dave Page , est impressionant :-)

Quant à vous, si vous loupez cette occasion unique qui ne se représentera pas de si tôt en France de rencontrer des core-hackers de PostgreSQL et autres hackers de tout poil... bah, vous n'avez rien compris!)

Prato pgDay Europe 2008 - day 0

Day 0

Après 7h de route, nous (Damien et moi) voilà enfin arrivés à Prato. Alors que nous roulions en direction de notre hôtel, nous avons apperçu quelques hackers PostgreSQL que nous connaissons déjà depuis pas mal de temps: Dave Page et Magnus Hagander...

Une fois posées nos valises, nous sommes allé les rejoindre. ll y avait là quelques uns des hackers du projet. Pour faire simple, "à peine" une 20aine d'entre eux :-)

Nous nous sommes rafraîchis (non pas avec de l'eau, on parle de hackers hein), puis après nous avons mangé dans une pizzeria bien en vogue ici. De quoi me réconcilier avec la Pizza... Moi qui n'aime pas trop ça, il faut recconaître qu'ici c'est vraiment particulier. Sauraient-ils mieux les faire que d'autres? Aucun doute là dessus.

Ensuite, on s'est tous retrouvés au "PLUG BAR" en fait, c'est une maison d'associations de la ville, en bordure des remparts de la ville, au calme. Le Prato Linux User Group y a élu domicile, et la bière y est fraîche et bon marché...

De quoi discuter à nouveau avec plusieurs de nos amis hackers, et aussi l'équipe des DBA de Skype venue presque au complet (il manque juste Asko, retenu en Estonie pour une conférence qu'il donne sur PostgreSQL).

Vivement demain, le Day One :) ... L'enregistrement commence à 8h30, petit-déj à 8h00 et lever à 7h00...

Bah oui quoi, on n'est pas venu ici pour faire la grasse mat'...

Restez branchés, je compte faire un compte rendu journalier tous les soirs (nuits), comme j'avais fait pour le pgCon d'Ottawa. Il paraît que j'ai été lu ;)

PostgreSQL Spanish group on rails

At last!!!

Yes, at last... I finally found a group of volunteers to help set up the Spanish PostgreSQL group. There are 4 guys from Barcelona and one from Sevilla willing to group and settle this new national PUG. The Sevillan one bought the domain name postgresqles.org, since postgresql.es seems bought by someone since 2005. He is currently installing a Drupal v.6.x with the famous . So his website will look like psql.it or postgresqlfr.org, what is great :-)

One thing to say about the absence of Spanish PUG for so long years. Just because there are some really great websites in Spanish already... Yes, the Peruvian and the Chilean ones are great examples. I think those websites dragged many users from Spain.

It has both good and bad effects:

  • good, because the spanish users have access to community documents in their mother tongue since a long time ago. I think this had a great effect on the PG usage in Spain;
  • bad, because those same users never met, nor promoted or advocated PostgreSQL in their own country. AFAIK, PostgreSQL never had any booth in any of the FLOSS events in Spain.

This second item is what determined me, as a director of PostgreSQL Europe board, to encourage and help Spanish users to settle their national PUG. Since I understand, talk and read spanish very well, and since Im not that far from Spain, I hope to serve this new group (despite the community there is old, but transparent to the public), the best I can.

Director of the PostgreSQL European Group !

Wow man!!!

I was finally elected at the board of directors of the new PostgreSQL Europe Group, and I firmed yesterday the papers.

Those papers are there to settle officially the non-profit association. Its a French law of 1901... So yes, PostgreSQL Europe will run under the French Law. Thats not that important, after all.

The most important thing to me is how much people we will have on our side working with us. At the moment, the pgsql-eu-general mailing list has 73 subscribers... Thats really few, and I hope many others will join and participate in this huge effort!

I started to contact spanish guys on the pgsql-es-ayuda mailing list. Since I speak and write spanish, I had to do it :-)

Speaking of this, I met Francisco Morosini, the leader of the Peruvian PostgreSQL Group, by mail first. Then on the spanish PostgreSQL IRC, we both understood who we were talking with. That was quite funny. We were talking "officially" by e-mails for about 2 hours, and also on the IRC, but quite anonymously, then we understand each other we were the same:

C'est parti...

Eh oui!!!!

Il fallait bien un jour que ça arrive...

Ce n'est pas très compliqué, c'est surtout dû au fait qu'il me fallait une tribune complémentaire pour m'exprimer sur mes activités comme

  • PostgreSQLFr
  • PostgreSQLEu: les activités de l'Association
  • PostgreSQL Advocacy
  • PostgreSQL Certification
  • Dalibo, ma société, parfois

Et aussi dévoiler de temps en temps certaines activités plus personnelles :-)

J'ai rajouté quelques posts que j'avais fait sur la page principale (www.argudo.org) il y a quelques temps. Je n'ai gardé que les plus intéressants, et surtout, ceux de la première page. Les autres étaient *vraiment* trop vieux :-(
